Chapter 1.1-Part 1- Plucking exercise with left hand fingering

Plucking exercise with left hand fingering-The previous chapter, I've shared with you about the right hand picking. As for this chapter, i will show you some exercises that will help you develop your left hand fingering.

For those who finished the exercises from the previous chapter may proceed to this exercise.
Many guitar player having problem with their left hand strength  when holding a chord, I've been through the same too, but there's always a solution to this matter.
Know what i did?I just grasp a tennis ball with my left hand and kindda squeeze it slowly.
I do this often, when I'm watching the TV, having snack, sleeping, breakfast, lunch, dinner, supper, etc....not this often...haha.....just do it when ever you want...

I will show this exercise in a chord diagram, so before we go through the exercise, i will teach you on  how to read the chord diagram.
So here it go:

From the above chord diagram, it clearly shows that there are six(6) vertical lines which represent the number of strings.
The 6th string is the low E and the 1st string is the high E.
The chord diagram shows how to hold a chord, for the above chord diagram, it shows D major chord position, the fingering is shown by the dot labeled with numbers.

The horizontal lines represent the frets number.

This may looks simple, but it is important for a guitar player to know how to read the chord diagram.
For the next lesson i will continue on the plucking exercises.

Set your AMP!

Hey Maniac!
Its been a while since my last post...so now i would like to share with all of you some amp setting for your guitar to sound better...yeah i admit there are hundreds model of amp out there...different sound...different tone...etc....

Steve Vai : His Guitar Sound is awesome!!!

But hey! the fundamental is still the same mate...once you got it....you can apply to almost any of amp...
So here are some setting for you to try:

 Setting for Clean

 Setting for Distortion

 Setting for Sharp Lead

These three settings are the basic setting for amp...I'm not saying you have to follow exactly...All you need to do is just try it on your amp and adjust it yourself if you not satisfies with the sound....But remember...the CONCEPT is still the SAME...

From the basic setting...we can improvise the sound....How do we do that?
Simple....TRY & ERROR!
Don't stop until you get the sound you want....
To help you...here are some examples:

 Neutral Setting

 Treble-Heavy Setting

 Bass Heavy Setting

Gently Distortion

Crunch Setting

Mute Distortion

Tips:
Leads guitar sound; lot of treble, min bass and mid.
Rhythm guitar sound; full bass, half-treble and no mid.
Heavy metal sound/distortion; full bass and treble, no mid and full gain.

What is Jazz?

What is JAZZ??

Anyone knows??
I don't know either...All i know is...It is hard to make the jazz sound...
But hey!Lets just start by knowing what jazz is (generally)...
I've done some research on the internet and i found out that everyone have their different view about JAZZ...
So this is the summary...Jazz is actually musical tradition and style of music that uses:
  • blue notes
  • improvisation
  • poly rhythms
  • syncopation
  • swung note
As for the instrument, in jazz, drum kit, bass guitar, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, double bass, piano/keyboard and guitar are normally used by jazz players.
From what I've experienced...the bassist and the drummer plays a very important role in jazz...
I'm not saying that the lead instruments is not/less important (guitar,trumpet,saxophone..etc)
The licks added by the lead  make the sound more JAZZY...!!

Here are some suggestion for further study:

Jazz guitarist:
  • Django Reinhardt
  • Chuck Anderson

Jazz bassist:
  • Charles Mingus
  • Jaco Pastorius
  • Victor Lemonte Wooten
Books:
The Jazz Book: From Ragtime to Fusion and Beyond
The Jazz Theory Book
The Jazz Book: From Ragtime to the 21st CenturyThe Jazz Piano BookVol. 1, How To Play Jazz & Improvise (Book & CD Set)

P/s:I've haven't done further study on JAZZ...anyone willing to share with me and other blogger please leave your comment..correct me if I'm wrong!!!

    Chapter 1-Right hand picking (Plucking)

So this is for the first lesson that i'd like to share with the musicmaniac....
This is mainly the basic thing you should know; plucking...
This is what i learned the i first got my acoustic guitar...
     So grab your guitar now!

    The Right Hand:

As we all know, we=human have 5 fingers on both hands and feet....
But hey...we only use fingers on both hands while playing guitar...
    So lets start....

From diagram above the P(thumb) will be used to pick/pluck the upper three strings (EAD).
And the other string is handled by:

    I (index)-3th string (G)
    M (Middle)-2nd string (B)
    A (Ring)-1st string (e)

    Exercise 1:
    P-i-m-a (E-G-B-e)
    P-i-m-a (A-G-B-e)
    P-i-m-a (D-G-B-e)

Notes: Pluck the individual string with the specified fingers(refer diagram)

As simple as the diagram, you can start practicing by plucking with open strings.
Without any chord is not a problem.
But once you mastered this, its okay to play it with songs.
You'll be amazed of what this exercise did to your fingers....Trust me! =)

     Try this pattern too!

    2)P-a-m-i
    3)P-i-m-a-m-i
    4)P-a-m-i-m-a

Questions and kind comments are welcome...
     Enjoy your practice!

P/s: If you guys have different method...do comment... =)
